Ib Kofod-Larsen (1921–2003) was a master of Scandinavian Modernism, celebrated for his sculptural, minimalistic, and organic furniture designs. Drawing inspiration from Danish mid-century design, he combined clean lines with natural materials such as teak, rosewood, and rich leather, often highlighting their innate grains and textures.
Known for iconic pieces like the Elizabeth Chair, Penguin Chair, and Seal Chair, Kofod-Larsen emphasized comfort and human-centered design, creating furniture that was both elegant and accessible. He experimented with materials and forms, from classic woodwork to innovative heat-hardened polyester, and extended his design talent to radios, cabinets, textiles, and industrial objects.
While highly acclaimed abroad, his designs remain timeless, embodying the clean aesthetics, functionality, and understated luxury of Scandinavian Modernism. Today, his work is sought-after by collectors worldwide and continues to inspire contemporary furniture design.
