Jean-Daniel Lorieux
Jean-Daniel Lorieux is a French fashion photographer. He was born in 1937 in Paris.
He began his career at Studio Harcourt in 1964 as an assistant and stayed there for a while before becoming a freelance photographer. For more than two decades, he worked for some of the biggest fashion magazines, including Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and L’Officiel.
Christian Dior, Céline, Lanvin, Pierre Cardin, and Paco Rabanne entrusted him with their advertising campaigns. Going beyond "classic" fashion photography, many personalities called on him for portraits, including Salvador Dalí, Nelson Mandela, Serge Gainsbourg, Salma Hayek, Johnny Hallyday, and even the President of France, Jacques Chirac. The paradisiacal islands of the South quickly became his studios; from the Maldives to the Seychelles, Jean-Daniel Lorieux crisscrossed the beaches in search of sun, light, and joy.
At a time when models were starting to become stars, he directed them for the biggest fashion magazines. The great fashion houses, such as Cardin, Lanvin, Céline, Dior, and Paco Rabanne, secured his services.
He imposed his style through idyllic photographs that were always unexpected, mixing eroticism and happiness. The joyful sensuality emanating from his work is infused with provocative humor. His colorful photographs elevate his exceptional models, including greats like Claudia Schiffer, actresses like Sharon Stone, and singers like Frank Sinatra, all of whom have passed before his lens.
